When engineers are faced with challenging design issues, such as weak existing soil conditions of high groundwater levels, often they utilize deep foundations to transfer vertical and horizontal building loads to terra firma. Successful builders and developers know that the proper placement and construction of structural caissons is one of the most critical stages of construction. Coastal drilling contractors are available to provide everything from site preparation, shoring, drilling of caissons, piers, and piles complete with placement of reinforcing steel cages and concrete. We have the capability of drilling with up to a 5 foot diameter bit to approximately 50 feet in depth. With a large array of drilling tools and casings available we are able to meet the vast majority of job specifications for the region.
Typically caisson and pile foundations are used to support structures built on ground that is subject movement such as hillside or bluff properties. Piles are drilled through unstable soil to penetrate into more supportive substrata. After the holes are drilled a steel reinforcing cage is lowered in and the bore hole is filled with high strength concrete. Most drilled pier foundations utilize a grade beam foundation to connect the grid of concrete piers. Then the structure is designed to bear directly on these concrete grade beams.
Piles can also be utilized to stabilize and retain earth on hillside properties. In addition to being a California Licensed Class-A General Engineering Contractor we are also a California Licensed Grading Contractor and offer full site preparation, rough, and final grading.
